Bob Schirmer

Like some other members of this year's inductees into the Grappling Hall of Fame, Master Bob Shirmer began training at the youngest age with his father. Bob Schirmer, Sr. was a highly decorated Airborne Ranger veteran of WWII, and a champion amateur boxer.

Bob soon added wrestling to the mix, and at the age of 12, at the urging of his wrestling coach, added Judo and Tae Know do to the Mix. At that point he may have been the only person in the US Cross Training regularly in what would eventually become MMA - competitively training in striking, takedowns, and submissions, every day.

Four decades later Schirmer had represented the USA in jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, San Shou, and Tae Kwon Do, on five continents, and he was known universally in the fight world as "Master" Bob. O Sensei Phil Porter, the highest ranked Judo instructor in America, promoted Master Bob to sixth Dan, and named him the Hall of Fame Martial Arts Founder of the Year.

In 1992, Master Bob founded the now world-famous All American Academy of Martial Arts in Chicago, which teaches Combat-Do, his own synthesis of the world's fighting arts, including those developed in the USA. It can and regularly does stand up against the best the rest of the world has to offer.

Because he leads one of the greatest gyms on Earth;
Because for four decades he has personified Cross Training and Cross Competing;
Because of his dedication to youth, the future of our sport;
Bob Schirmer is hereby inducted into the Grappling Hall of Fame as a Founding Member
