2004 NORTH AMERICAN GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP

The NAGC is the biggest, baddest mixed grappling tournament on the planet! Nine years ago, the NAGA pioneered the sport of No-Gi grappling in a competitive forum. Adding the already popular BJJ divisions created an unprecedented growth, from 55 competitors in 1995, to over 14,000 in 2004. Last year’s NAGC event had an astonishing 1,300 competitors – the largest Grappling event in history - and NAGC 2004 will eclipse it! We have combined the Adult Gi & No-Gi competitions and expanded to over 175 divisions overall. The NAGC has attracted some of the world’s most prominent figures in grappling including Renzo Gracie, Mario Sperry, Minotauro Nogiera, Tiger Schulmann, & JacareCalvacanti. Past NAGC Superfights featured the sport’s greatest champions including Rodrigo Gracie, Jeff Monson, Matt Serra, Ricardo Almeida, & Dan Severn to name a few.

NEW MASSIVE VENUE

For the past 5 years we have held the event at Marist High School in Bayonne, NJ.   It was a great venue/location when we had less than 1,000 competitors.  As many of you can attest, we have outgrown the high school’s gym and need to move to a larger venue.  We have found the perfect new venue only minutes from Manhattan and our old location.   St. Peters’ College in Jersey City, NJ is 3 times the size of Marist and seats 4,000 spectators!  To save everyone on entrance fees and hotel costs, we will be combining the Gi & No-Gi competition into one day running 14 Rings at once!

55 CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS

The NAGA is the only grappling tournament in the World to hand out HUGE CHAMPIONSHIP BETLS to its 55 Advance/Expert Division Winners.  Our investment of over $14,000 was worth every penny!  They are awesome: real leather with a diamond cut, chrome finish that is going to blow you away!  Tournament Gi & No-Gi Champions in all Kids (Under 14 Years old), Teens (15 to 17 years), Women, Men, Masters, Directors & Executive (Advanced Divisions) winners will take home a beautiful Championship Belt for their victory.  (See Registration form for specific Championship Belt Divisions).  Please note – Only ONE Championship Belt will be awarded a competitor even if multiple Adv. Divisions are won.

175 GRAPPLING DIVISIONS

The NAGC has 175 separate grappling divisions!  This is more than any other grappling tournament, ever!  We have added many new divisions such as TEENS with 3 Skill Levels (Beginner, Intermediate & Advance). MENS EXPERT Class for those with 5 years or more experience, GIRL TEENS! The NAGA has eliminated the possibility of mismatches and has provided you with the fairest and most comprehensive tournament structuring in the country.

WIN A FREE TRIP TO BRAZIL

The NAGA, Sambazon and Varig Airlines are handing out 2 Round Trip Plane Tickets to Brazil.  Every NAGC Submission Fighter that competes in the NAGC will automatically be entered into the contest.  The Winner WILL be drawn at this event!

The Greatest Risk is Not Taking One

No one remembers those who played it safe.  Yet that is what most of us do.  It is inherent in our nature to avoid risk.  From the earliest age there is something that tells us to sidestep danger.  Perhaps because of that, there is also something in us that admires the risk taker, the competitor, the person with the courage to step up to the mat and believe they can win their division.  We all have jobs, families, past injuries and limited training time; don’t let that keep you from competing.  We are all in the same boat. Train, compete; your efforts will not go unrewarded.  See you in October.  Kipp Kollar – NAGA President
